5 Causes of puppy sneezing

It can be a symptom of allergy or a respiratory infection. Usually sneezing is not a serious medical condition, and can be treated or disappear without medication. Make sure that you notice any additional symptoms, in order to be able to determine the real cause behind the sneezing.

1. Respiratory diseases

Dogs can have respiratory diseases. Colds and sinus infections are common in puppies. Parainfluenza and adenovirus are frequent causes of sneezing in puppies.

  • A respiratory infection can also cause other symptoms such as:
  • Swollen eyes
  • inflamed lymph glands
  • Excessive mucus
  • cough
  • respiratory difficulties
  • Lethargy
Puppies that have been in contact with a shelter environment can often have kennel cough syndrome, which will be accompanied by symptoms such as sneezing.

If the dog has a bacterial, viral or fungal infection of the nose, sneezing is common. These infections can become chronic, if not to treat them.

2. Foreign bodies

If your puppy has a foreign object in the nasal cavity, you may sneeze frequently as they try to remove the object from the nose. The puppy blood can sneeze if the object has his nasal cavity or pharynx.

However, the object can block the nasal cavity, so you need to go to the veterinarian immediately.

The veterinarian can extract the foreign object. If the object is too large, surgery may be necessary. May prescribe anti-inflammatory medication, and the puppy is likely to have a quick recovery.

3. Allergies

Puppies can be allergic to different environmental factors, including:
  • pollens
  • Dust
  • grain
  • Molde
  • Smoke
  • inhaled fibers
  • Grass Products for the home or chemical products

Sneezing occurs as a natural response of the body trying to eliminate the source of irritation from the nose or pharynx.

Other symptoms include runny nose, skin irritation, itching and hair loss.

Some allergies are seasonal, depending on the source.

Dogs usually develop allergies after the age of 2 years, but there are cases of puppies that are allergic.

Sneezing caused by allergies can be treated by administering the medication. The treatment will consist of antihistamines, steroids or injections for allergy.

4. Tooth infection

Teeth infections can cause frequent sneezing in puppies. Examine your puppy's mouth for foul odor, inflammation of the gums or pockets of pus.

Teeth infections are uncommon in puppies, but they may be present.

5. tumors

Tumors can also cause sneezing. However, puppies are very unlikely to have tumors at such a young age.

If your dog sneezes often and is removed from the blood, take it to the vet to rule out tumors. some x-rays of the paranasal sinuses will be necessary.
