From the beginning of the 20th century, these dogs developed on the basis of Pinschers with hard hair meet a very big success. Over the selections, the black dress has been favored over other colors, including yellowish, reddish, greyish-white and dark gray. The race of the Affenpinscher was definitively recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) on July 15th, 1955.

Behavior and character

The Affenpinscher  is a dog that is awake, courageous, loyal, determined and vigilant . He enjoys family life and is a pleasant companion for all his members, although some caution must be kept with children . They can, in fact, rush him. He can sometimes be stubborn.

Education ...
The Affenpinscher requires a fairly firm education to alleviate the strong side he can sometimes display, as well as his enthusiasm. Apart from that, his education is not difficult. This dog must also be socialized early enough for him to get along with his fellow animals and other animals he is called to meet.

Thanks to its double coat, the Affenpinscher  tolerates rather cold and humidity , but not extreme climatic conditions. The breed has predispositions to certain diseases: persistence of the arterial duct (cardiac malformation), dislocation of the patella , Legg-Perthes-Calvé disease (necrosis of the head and neck of the femur).

Maintenance & Hygiene

The Affenpinscher  is a dog easy enough to maintain . It does not require much effort at this level, but the maintenance must remain regular. During moulting, he experiences moderate hair loss , but it is recommended to give him a diet richer in salt during this period.

Outings ...
The Affenpinscher  loves to run and be active , even if he is not a great sportsman . A good daily walk accompanied by stimulating games is enough to preserve its balance on the physical and psychic level.

Hygiene ...
It is recommended to brush the dog once a week to maintain his hair. During the moult, the brushing is done 2 to 3 times a week.

Living conditions

The Affenpinscher has the advantage of being able to adapt to all the lifestyles  that his master can offer him. He can very well live in an apartment if he is sufficiently walk and stimulated. He also enjoys enjoying a large fenced garden in which he can run freely. It is suitable for most family situations, with special attention given to children. It is addressed to any type of master able to take care of it, because his education is not particularly complicated.
