The Labrador Retriever is an English dog whose ancestors were brought back from Newfoundland as early as 1814. Its hair : short, thick, without ripple. It is impermeable to bad weather.
Its color : the dress is entirely yellow (sand), black or brown (chocolate). The Labrador sand takes several weeks to get its final shade unlike the black Labrador. The chocolate Labrador has long been snubbed in France. However, this aspect is more and more appreciated.
Its head : round with a right muzzle. The skull and truffle are wide, but the cheeks are not thick.
Its ears : tied back and of medium size, they fall on the sides of the head.
Its eyes : medium in size are brown or hazel.
Its body: has a horizontal line on the top. The chest is broad and well built just like the kidney which remains short and strong.
Its tail : imposing at the base, it is refined towards the end. She must not curl on her back.
Behavior with others
Sweet, faithful, intelligent and playful , the Labrador Retriever is the perfect companion for everyone . It is also one of the most widespread dog breeds in the world. Good guardian , he is not too fearful . Particularly patient and docile , he is fantastic as a guide dog for the blind. Listening, ardent and voluntary , he is very appreciated by the rescuers.
The puppies can be very turbulent. Nevertheless, the Labrador Retriever is good at learning . He will become a pleasant dog if you teach him firmly the basic rules of conduct necessary for his safety and yours. The education of the Labrador Retriever must be through play . An untreated swollen belly can be fatal for Labrador.
Maintenance and hygiene
The Labrador interview is not very restrictive. Only brushing during moulting periods (spring and autumn) takes a lot of time.
During the moulting period , use a wire brush . Regarding his claws, he must regularly use them on hard ground. Shorten them, if necessary, with a specific clamp. Two baths a year are enough . In the Labrador Retriever, the major fragility is in the ears . They should be monitored and cleaned regularly with a product recommended by your veterinarian. Otherwise, it will be subject to chronic ear infections.
Be careful not to overfeed Labrador, which appreciates food and is quite greedy. His ration of high quality croquettes must be given twice . In the morning during a light meal and in the evening during a dinner more hearty.
