Your dog is a carnivore who can eat almost anything you give him. Nevertheless, there are certain forbidden foods, which are called dangerous foods because of their toxicity. We give you a non-exhaustive list of food to avoid from your cupboards and which your canine should not touch or swallow.
Your dog's diet should definitely not be taken lightly. It must be adapted to its breed or its type, its size and its particular situation (pregnant or lactating female, dog overweight or who is following a treatment ...). In any case, there are a number of foods that should not be given . Dangerous to one's health, some can even be fatal.
Chocolate and caffeine
Did you used to give your dog a square of chocolate because it made you look soft? This is a gesture which certainly starts from a good intention, but which can be fatal to it .
Chocolate is, indeed, a real poison for our four-legged friends. Chocolate contains a toxic molecule for your 4-legged animal: theobromine . It is she who gives chocolate its bitterness. It disrupts your dog's nervous system , accelerates your heart rate and causes digestive disorders . Poisoning can be fatal if your dog swallows more than 200 grams of dark chocolate. Even small quantities are to be avoided. Moreover, caffeine , which contains the same molecule, is also to be forgotten.
Cooked bones and small bones
It is well known, our doggies love to spend hours chewing a bone. Only, you must not give any one to yours. A big bone? It's worry free. Your dog will spend time trying to eat it. It's also good for his teeth. The small bones , those chicken for example, are dangerous. The cooked bones in general are also for the same reason: the debris can detach, causing lesions in the walls of the digestive system of the dog, choking or remaining stuck in its mouth.
The egg white
Unlike the egg yolk, which can be given to the dog, the white , it is forbidden. It contains a protein called avidin which, by binding to vitamin B8 , alters its assimilation by the body and causes a serious deficiency . Vitamin B8, or biotin, is essential for your dog's body.
The raw potato
Cooked, the potato can be consumed by your dog. This is not the case for rawpotato , which is toxic because it contains calcium oxalate . This insoluble ionic crystal is likely to attack the urinary tract . The other worries would be multiple : heart, motor, digestive, nervous and the kidneys can even be affected.
The pulp of the avocado and the kernel are toxic to dogs. They contain persine, a molecule found in the fruit and on the leaves of the avocado tree. Consumed by them, it gives cardiovascular problems giving rise to edema or effusions. It can cause significant digestive disorders : pain, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite. It can also cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
It is the lactose contained in cow's milk that is implicated. Like some humans, dogs are intolerant to lactose , which can cause flatulence, vomiting and diarrhea.
On the other hand, the latter is better for yogurts or cheeses because they are less rich in lactose. The best thing is to give nothing to your dog that could contain this lactose. Besides, this food is hardly useful for him.
Garlic, onion and shallot
These plants, family Lilliaceae , are toxic to your dog. So be careful when giving the leftovers of a dish to your protégé. Dish that can hold a remaining garlic or onion for example. They cause destruction of red blood cells and therefore anemia. Result: the transport of oxygen in the blood is impaired. Note that chives or leeks are also forbidden foods, cooked or raw.
Whether fresh or dried fruit , grapes are also dangerous foods for dogs.
They present a toxicity for its organism, in particular for its kidneys and the digestive tract . To date, it has not yet identified precisely the toxic principle incriminated. On the other hand, it is known that 4 grams of raisin per kilogram (of the weight of the animal) are sufficient to cause the death of a dog. It is the same for 20 grams of fresh grapes per kilo.
The fat, preservatives and salt present in mass in salted meats, hams and other deli products are dangerous for the health of your dog. Excess salt can, indeed, disrupt its water needs and promote the formation of important digestive gases , sources of pain and sometimes likely to cause death.
Some species of wild mushrooms can poison us. It's the same for our dog friends, who are equally vulnerable to this type of danger. The liver and nervous system of the animal can be attacked after eating.
It only takes a little bit of alcohol to alter your dog 's condition and behavior . At high doses, it can cause significant disturbances in the central nervous system and cardiac functions. This can lead to the death of the animal.
Candy and pastries , you must forget. Indeed, these sweets contain Xylitol which is a substitute for sugar an
